How MAP Works

Atmosphere Control

MAP replaces the air inside the package with a specific protective gas mix (typically N₂, CO₂, and O₂).

CO₂: Inhibits the growth of mold and aerobic bacteria.

N₂: Used as a filler gas to prevent package collapse and exclude oxygen.

O₂: Maintained at specific levels for red meat to preserve its bright red color.

The Role of the Barrier

● A MAP system is only as good as its barrier. Our EVOH-based films act as a "lock," keeping the modified gases inside and preventing external oxygen from entering, ensuring your product reaches the consumer in peak condition.

Material Science

Structure Table

● Fresh Red Meat: PET / EVOH / Anti-fog PE (High $O_2$ barrier + clear visibility).
● Bakery & Snacks: PET / VMPET / PE or OPP / EVOH / PE (Moisture & Aroma protection).
● Cheese & Nuts: PA / EVOH / PE (Superior puncture resistance + Oxygen barrier).

The Meiji Edge

● In-House Co-extrusion: We control the thickness and distribution of the EVOH layer. This ensures that even when the MAP Tray Lidding Film is stretched (during thermoforming), the barrier remains intact without "thin spots."
● Anti-Fog Integration: Our MAP Tray Lidding Film come with permanent anti-fog properties, preventing condensation so consumers can always see the quality of the fresh product.
● Solvent-Free Safety: Zero solvent residue means no chemical migration, preserving the natural flavor profile of your food.

Applications

Comprehensive Lidding Film Solutions for Food Packaging

From fresh produce to shelf-stable meals, Meiji Packaging delivers high-performance lidding films engineered for your specific application. Our high barrier lidding film structures utilize EVOH, aluminum foil, or metalized layers to achieve ultra-low oxygen transmission rates, preserving product freshness throughout the supply chain.

For modified atmosphere applications, our MAP tray lidding film is designed to maintain precise gas compositions (N₂, CO₂, O₂), ensuring extended shelf life for fresh meat, seafood, and cheese. When high-temperature sterilization is required, anti-fog retort lidding film provides exceptional clarity during retort processing while maintaining easy peel integrity.

All our lidding film food packaging solutions are fully customizable—available as lidding films for PP trays, PET trays, or PS containers, with sealant layers matched to your tray material. Optional features include anti-fog coatings, printed branding, and consumer-friendly easy peel functionality.

Why Trust Meiji for Your MAP Film Requirements?

1.png

Vertical Integration & Testing

We don't just provide the film; we provide the science. Our lab is equipped with OTR and WVTR testing equipment to validate that every batch of high barrier lidding film meets your specific shelf-life requirements. By blowing our own film, we can tailor the barrier level to your specific gas-mix needs.

Consistency in High-Speed Production

MAP processes often involve high-speed tray sealing or VFFS machines. Our high barrier lidding films are engineered with a broad sealing window and stable COF (Coefficient of Friction), ensuring airtight seals every time, which is critical for maintaining the modified atmosphere.

3

Customization

We engineer pouches to your exact specs. Choose custom dimensions, high-barrier laminations (AL/EVOH), premium 10-color printing, and functional add-ons like resealable zippers or liquid spouts.

4

Global Compliance & Sustainability

Trusted globally. Our BRCGS and ISO 9001 certified facility guarantees FDA/EU food-contact compliance. Meet your ESG goals with our TUV-certified compostable or 100% recyclable mono-PE options.

FAQ

How much can MAP extend my product's shelf life?
Depending on the product and the initial gas mix, MAP can extend shelf life by 200% to 400% compared to traditional packaging. For example, fresh pasta can go from 1 week to 3–4 weeks.
Do I need special equipment for MAP Tray Lidding Film?
Yes, you need a tray sealer or a VFFS/HFFS machine equipped with a gas flushing system. Our high barrier lidding films are designed to be compatible with all major MAP equipment brands.
Is EVOH better than Nylon for MAP?
For oxygen barrier properties, EVOH is significantly superior to Nylon. While Nylon provides strength and puncture resistance, EVOH is the "gold standard" for keeping oxygen out and modified gases in.
Can you provide "breathable" MAP films for vegetables?
Yes. Fresh produce requires a specific level of oxygen exchange (Respiration). We provide micro-perforated high barrier lidding films where the OTR is precisely tuned to the respiration rate of the specific vegetable or fruit.
